The 22-year-old player received a direct red card and was sent off in the 90+2 minute of the U23 China vs U23 Qatar match in the Round of 16 of the 2022 Asian Games. After reviewing the situation and Jiang Shenglong's reaction, the AFC has decided to impose an additional two-match suspension. Although this penalty does not apply to the 2022 Asian Games as U23 China has been eliminated, Jiang Shenglong will be suspended for the next two matches in the FIFA schedule and will be absent for the matches against Vietnam's national team and Uzbekistan.
The Chinese media sees this as a major setback for Coach Jankovic in his team rebuilding plan. Sohu (China) website states, "Coach Jankovic wanted to call up the 22-year-old center-back duo from Shanghai Shenhua, Zhu Chenjie and Jiang Shenglong. However, Zhu Chenjie is injured, and now it's Jiang Shenglong who is suspended."
This season, Jiang Shenglong has been in good form in the Chinese Super League. Statistics show that he ranks fourth in successful tackles and seventh in interceptions near the goal.

Jiang Shenglong is not only strong defensively but also a threat in attacking situations, thanks to his height of 1.93m. In the 2023 season, the 22-year-old center-back has scored 4 goals for Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League.
Coach Jankovic has been working with Jiang Shenglong since leading the U23 China team. The Serbian coach intends to include his young player in the long-term national team plans. Therefore, despite being unable to play in the October matches, Jiang Shenglong will still be with the Chinese national team to train and prepare for the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
